Thank you for your interest in The Pursuit of Nobility and The New Nobility Project, an organization dedicated to gathering, cultivating and supporting those who can form a better future, one domain at a time.
Many have communicated their concern and hope that this thing is legitimate, real and lasting. We share precisely that concern and are working to turn that hope into functional entities around which a community of noble "future formers" can form.
As we gather this community many have asked what they might do to help. Below you will find the three initial areas where the needs are most pressing – in a chosen strategic sequence. We don't ask any one person to do all or most of these things, but we wanted to provide a list with enough scope and variety for you to get a sense of where we are headed, so that you would be more likely to find at least one item that is right up your alley.
Thanks for your interest and welcome aboard.
The Cadre 1. Use your social and communication skills
Tell others. In order to affect change, people need to know what we are trying to do and they need to understand why its important. Tell 100 people about what is going on and encourage them to get involved. We are working on developing one short sentence that can be quickly remembered and passed on to others. Right now it is something like "A better future awaits. Become a FutureFormer and make sure it happens."
Try that and see what happens! Give us suggestions to make it better - easier to remember and convey. When on of us can enlist someone new who can do the same - we have started something real. Subscribe to the blog at http://ponauthor.wordpress.com - and send posts you like to people you trust.
Share your thoughts. Write positive replies to articles, editorials and blogs.
If you find a piece of published writing you agree with and affirm and it ties to the themes you see developing in the project – contact the author, tell her or him what you like in the piece and why – and reference it back to our site, linking it to a specific PON blog entry that fleshes out the value the author of the piece has touched on. Be constructive. Don't complain or rant. Focus on what we can influence and affect – the future.
Write a review of the book
If you have read the entire book and can affirm its message, please go to Amazon and write a review. Also – if you know someone prominent, with name recognition and a worthy reputation that would read and review the book, contact them and ask them to read it. These reviews are a critical component in getting the ideas more widely discussed in our culture.
2. Use your analytical and instructional skills
Submit Ideas for The Art of Nobility: A Practitioner's Guide to Future Forming
We are creating a field guide that makes acting NOW to create a better future an everyday reality in the world today. Creating this guide will be a collaborative effort - created BY future formers FOR future formers. We need you to tell us what questions or topics you would like to see addressed in such a guide.
Submit curriculum ideas for the Future Formers Institute
We will be creating an in-depth professional school to prepare the character of nobles for this work as their full-time work within their domain. We need you to tell us what issues you think a noble must overcome to be tough enough to sustain this work against great resistance and indifference - for many years.
Submit supporting examples and research
If you know of historical examples that fit the criteria of nobility outlined in the book and the blog please let us know so we can highlight them. It is best if the person has been dead at least 100 years so the historians have had time to sort out the hype from their real story. If you know of supporting historical, sociological, behavioral, philosophical, biological, psychological or other research that supports the ideas of exceptionalism, social facilitation, virtue ethics and the role of "exemplars" let us know. We will begin posting these resources on the site.
3. Use your organizational and political skills
Host on-site visits
If you know of a gathering or group that might find value for their work in the message of nobility and would like a member of the project to come and speak to, or dialogue with your group at their next meeting, let us know.
Sponsor a demonstration of the concept in your domain
If you are leader of influence in a domain (company, organization, industry, profession) that is in an "evolve or die" situation contact us to bring the concepts of nobility to your domain. We can now demonstrate what happens when you set nobility loose in an organization to bring renewal to a domain in the real world. Such demonstrations drive the word-of-mouth recommendations the project needs.
Organize a community, campus or domain-based chapter of the Future Formers Alliance
If you have a talent for gathering and engaging people who are thoughtful, competent learners to study and support each other as they master a demanding skill set - see if they might be willing to start a group discussing the ideas in the book and blog – and then move on to supporting each other as they undertake their own Assignment from Life within their respective domains. Let us know what kind of support you would need from us, if any. And let us know what works and doesn't work so we can pass it on to other groups.
Organize a community, campus or domain-based chapter of the Noble Citizen's Initiative
If you have a talent for gathering and engaging people who are thoughtful, competent contributors to do hard things that matter against organized resistance in the real world - see if they might be willing to start a group discussing the ideas in the book and blog – and then move on to deciding what Noble Deed they would like to undertake in their community or domain. Let us know what kind of support you would need from us, if any. And let us know what works and doesn't work so we can pass it on to other groups.
Help support the project
We are working to set up a non-profit organization or foundation that will support chapters as well as noble work being done within domains. To build the support, structure, programs and staff we need to make a difference, we will require significant and sustained financial resources. If you have experience in fundraising for good causes and are willing to get involved, let us know. Also if you or someone you know would like to support this launch, let us know. We would love to hear your thoughts on the best way to build out the funding component of the project.
